ALIYAH CLAY

Movement Artist.

About

I am a vessel.

The arts are constantly evolving and I want to be a part of the change not just on the stage but off the stage as well. I aspire to move towards explorative work that embraces perceptual, conceptual, and bodily ways of being a vessel.

I am a vessel.

As a Black woman, it’s important to me to cultivate a safe environment for everyone while ensuring that there is respect and intention. A space that will hopefully ignite the creative genius inside us all to keep reaching beyond. There is no arrival point for me, I want to always be seeking more even if I don’t know what it is yet. Dancing is constant movement, even when we are in “stillness” there is still movement happening in the body and that’s how I approach my work. I am drawn to the work within contemporary, contemporary ballet, and modern forms of dance. I would love to be interchangeable within those studies as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. I believe in multiplicity and being well versed therefore, I aim to work within multiple mediums while finding ways to blend them. I value finding ways to identify and solve problems to achieve an overall goal, the creative ability to uncover new opportunities and solutions, a collaborative mindset that works well with others, time management, communication, and organizational skills within any working environment. I believe in the connection with my family, friends, peers, nature, and the relationality I have with space as time evolves.

I am a vessel.
